Questions for your Leasing Agent

Signing a lease with someone is subjecting you to a long relationship with that particular person. It’s important to know that they are someone who is going to be honest and who actually wants to help you out. It’s not always easy to judge someone right away, so we’ve assembled some questions for your leasing agent to help get an idea of the type of salesperson you are dealing with.

  1. What is the true monthly cost of my lease? Make sure that you understand all the fees, charges, and payments that you are expected to make. Don’t just take your lease price at face-value. Find out if there are any fees that they are trying to hide. If your salesperson seems to skirt around certain areas then you might want to be wary.
  2. What time restraints will I be dealing with? This is mostly in regards to getting help with your copier when you need it. Will someone always be available to help me, or can I only get help during specific hours? How much help can you really expect from these people? Do they seem like the kind of people who will be there to help you when you need it most?
  3. What happens at the end of the lease? Don’t just assume that your company will take care of everything when your lease ends. Make sure everything is clearly stated so there are no surprises. The end of a lease is actually where there are some pretty sneaky provisions. Make sure they are being completely honest about the entirety of your lease.

Question your representative aggressively if you think you aren’t getting the whole truth. Don’t let yourself get taken advantage of. Do your part to make sure that you are getting a good price so you don’t pay more than you have to.
